Reverend Velvet L. Abram is a native of Alexandria, Virginia. She is the eldest of four children born to Earl and Virginia Byrd. At the age of eight she accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and was baptized at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia by Pastor Austin A. Booker. She was licensed to preach the Gospel in 1999 and Ordained in 2005 by Pastor and Founder Johnnie L. Abram, at the Harvest Assembly Baptist Church, Alexandria, Virginia.
Previously she worked in the field of education as an assistant and teacher in the public and private Christian school arenas. She is currently working with a local not-for-profit organization whose mission is to reduce homelessness and promote self-sufficiency which compliments her work in the ministry.
Reverend Abram’s love for children has spanned the entire life of Harvest Assembly as she has served not only as a mentor to them, but has also been looked upon as a surrogate mother and a positive role model. She previously served as the director of the Target Teen ministry which gave teenagers a safe forum to understand how to apply the principles of God’s word to their daily lives and challenges they face.
Reverend Abram has served in the music ministry in several capacities; directing the children, teens and presently the Evangelistic Choir. She also serves as the teacher of the Women’s Bible Study challenging and encouraging the ladies in the word of the Lord.
Since the planting of Harvest Assembly Baptist Church, Reverend Abram has been a dedicated leader with a love for the People of God. She works tirelessly beside her husband, leading and encouraging the body of Christ. On first Sundays, Reverend Abram can be witnessed preaching with power and anointing at the 8:30 a.m. services. In October of 2006, her service was counted worthy of elevation and appointment to the position of Assistant Pastor.
Reverend Abram is a graduate from George Mason University with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Christian Counseling and Discipleship at the Capital Bible Seminary in Lanham, MD.
Reverend Velvet and Pastor Johnnie Abram have one son, Todd, a percussionist is a joy and a blessing. He works with them in the vocal and instrumental portion of the music ministry.
